One thing I love doing above everything else: recording someone singing while they accompany themselves with their instrument.
Whether it’s a guitar, a fiddle, a bouzouki or a piano – there is something very special about the interaction between the singing and the playing, how the voice and the instrument resonate together, and how this affects your phrasing. That is where a lot of the magic lives.
Most studios record the instrument first, then overdub the vocals on top – because it leads to better sound quality and it’s much easier too.
I have a lot of expertise in capturing instrument and vocals at the same time, and always enjoy that challenge.
Of course it isn’t the same for everyone: some people work very well with recording the instrument first then overdubbing the vocals, and it will produce better results.
I will work with you to find what suit you best, so that your performance will flow naturally and spontaneously.
